A Christian Message to Democrats and Republicans

Let's first get out of the way that I'm a 67-year-old Christian family man that is an African American, and a Democrat that is a moderate. Like many others I once enjoyed listening to one sided coverage of politics, hearing each evening why we to the "left of center" were in the right, and why those on the other side were so wrong. Over time this began to conflict with my daily walk with the Lord, and this type of coverage became repulsive to me. As Believers we are to use God's Word as the standard, not manipulate our points of view to fit neatly inside of a particular political perspective, or to just refer to Scripture when it supports what we want to say anyway. I'll direct this brief blog to those who consider themselves to be Christians, because, by definition, they are to look to God as the ultimate authority.
From a Christian perspective, society, more and more, has made peace with beliefs, lifestyles, choices, ways of treating people, etc..., that conflict with what is taught in God's Word. Both the Democratics and Republicans have allowed some of these elements to be at the front and center of their Parties, and there are charismatic politicians, talk show hosts, influencers, etc..., representing these views that can lead us away from Biblical Truth if we don't watch it.
In his Winning the Invisible War Part One and Part Two sermons, Dr. Michael Youssef does a great job of explaining how our society, including those in the church community, have come to accept so many things that contradict what the Bible teaches. So, my first plea is for you to check out the two sermons in the first sentence of this paragraph and for you to do some soul searching as to if your Christian Beliefs and Walk has been compromised.
My second plea is for you to dare to be adequately informed politically. I know this is a big leap for many, and it may have to be where you ease into it a little at a time. Being adequately informed includes recognizing when you are hearing news from a source that has an agenda and then seeking to hear the other side. I suggest checking out this Media Bias Chart to "consider the sources" when checking out your outlets of choice.
The Christian Demographic is a large one and I believe has the power to affect both parties by getting behind candidates running for office in the primaries that espouse Christian values. I suspect that many of these will be moderates and not those to the extreme Right and Left. People that are not so far apart from those on the other side that working together is a near impossibility, as it appears to be the case now. Not that things then will be perfect, but it would be nice to be able to choose between good, better, and the best candidates, instead of being left with having to select the lesser of evils.
